A Game of Catch Where The Ball Never Lands

Can you see it? Feel it?

Imagine playing catch with someone you care about — for most of us this will be our dad; whether we have done this or not, it is a common stereotype we can all adhere to. Now picture him throwing that ball way up high and you extend your hand out. But wait, for some reason, the ball never lands. In fact, it almost looks like it is getting smaller and smaller.

You may relate to this or maybe this is a feeling you get out of different areas of life. It could be your relationships or it could very well be life itself. For instance, remember the promises made but never acted upon, the words said yet to which one did not measure to. This can go deep. It could be experiences we had growing up — heck, it could very likely be our sense of integrity and our ability to keep our word, to others, and more importantly to ourselves.

My aim here is not to provide a fix but instead to open up questions of what you are willing to let pass whether from others or from yourself. If like me, you want more out of life, yourself, and the people surrounding you, then you absolutely cannot settle for empty promises. Second chances are perfectly valid and should be given out, but I want you to realize their impact on your life and well-being.

I am a better man today than I was yesterday and I will be better tomorrow still. A big part of our journey in life begins with keeping our word to ourselves and to others. This is so much more important in a setting where you have people relying on you, whether at work or in your personal life. Can you imagine a life where this is so, where you always catch that throw, no matter what, because you know you can and you trust not just in the person throwing but in the act itself?
