Delving into the feeling of being all that one can be

Building upon its strong foundations

Aiming onwards towards the heavens

Providing shelter and calm to all who tag along

Nurturing, often hidden, all who choose to belong

I have a deep appreciation of trees and all that they provide — their solace and shelter, their deep smell of nature, the strength they represent, their vastness and shameless taking of space, and finally their divine ancestral beauty. I admire and almost revere them — walking amongst them daily grounds me like nothing else.

I didn’t think that this fascination would reveal to me my word for 2023. One tree in particular, leafless, standing tall in all its splendor, stood out to me during a recent walk and as I awed at its beauty and the space it took, my mind blanked as I wondered just how to describe this deep, vast, sense of beauty and awe that I felt. Then, like an epiphany, it came to me. “Majestic”. I could see it, feel it. That was my word. From that time on, it was set in stone, an intention set out to the universe to manifest in ways absolutely unknown to me at this time. What would it be like I wondered, to be, to feel, to cultivate and own this feeling of being Majestic?

As massive as this felt, once the elation dozed off, a part of me whispered, “Really?” — could I be that — feel that way? I knew what it meant. To meet my highest standards when it came to my physical, mental and spiritual self. To truly own the space I take and that which I influence. That was in regard to me and yes, maybe, just maybe I could feel that way about myself. But I also wish for others to see me in the same way, as a beacon that allows them to feel a yearning, a longing to be majestic as well.

Isn’t it such a nice dream, for us all to be all that we can be? For humankind to expand onto its fullest potential — to reach not just for the stars but the deepest parts of who we are and conquer lands, expanses that either lay hidden or within grasp yet simply forgotten or forever in the land of fear and avoidance. Still, this is a dream that keeps me going, for myself and for all those around me.

About 6 months ago, I was in the midst of reading “Start With Why” by Simon Sinek — I felt that something was missing; that it was just within grasp yet unknown to me. At the time, I had been running an informal mastermind with a group of close friends — meeting consistently every week for over a year. Add that to 3 prior masterminds that I had been part of, the lessons I learned about myself, and this deep search for what was next. Like a gnawing at the depths of my heart and mind, I could feel the blank frustration, yet I could not see the forest through the trees. (Pun intended)

It took a walk in nature with a friend who raised — “Why don’t you do more of those masterminds? I think you could truly help people.” Me, run masterminds for others? How would I even begin and what sort of person would I need to be to do that? Sure an informal weekly meeting is one thing but to build a structure that would hold others, at times strangers, to their commitments, and their growth consistently for a long period of time — was that possible?

At times you can think or you can choose to act — to try it out, to take a leap and see where you land. I started. At the time, I had been consistently waking up at 5 AM for about 6 months. So I put that time towards building out those masterminds. I still remember putting out my first post on Linkedin thinking ok, let’s see if anyone will join. Within a week, I went from 0 to 3 members — exactly what I needed for the trial. A colleague’s wife, an acquaintance I had met at a conference, and finally an old friend from 10 years ago. “Life finds a way” to quote one of my favorite quotes from Jurassic park.

Soon 1 became 3 and here I was holding space for 12 people, some friends, some strangers for 12 weeks. Those 12 weeks were everything I thought they would be and not. I found that I had the strength and space to do this. I also found what It took from me, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Most of all though, I saw the tremendous impact I had and could have on others. In those 12 weeks, I helped folks focus on their reading habits, explore what it meant to augment their social skills, build a community in their neighborhood, stay true to their healthy habits, write a book, stay resilient in their job hunt, become a paid writer, finish a course, become the leader they want to be and more, so much more.

As of today, I have now held 6 mastermind cohorts and helped 18 individuals. This year, 2023, I am committing to be in service; to help as many as I can to be as I am daily, all that they can be. I am starting 3 masterminds this January and more later this year. Combined with our growing discord community, I know the next few months and years hold so much growth and beauty. I also know, the latter does not come easy. My own commitments and growth are a priority. What is beautiful is as I hold space for others, they do the same for me and with everyone else, I get to grow as well.

To everyone who has trusted me so far and to all those that will,

Thank you.
