Who’s Your Giant?
An unexpected dream of courage
I woke up today from a terrifying dream — I was back in my childhood home when suddenly giants appeared. They were checking on homes and ‘emptying’ them of any occupants. I remember trying to hide and not make any sounds while their giant eyes would peek through windows. The dream ended with me at a standstill, one giant eye staring unmoving in the direction of my hiding spot and me knowing that I had been found.
Giants, unfortunately, are not limited to dreams or fiction; they live and march in all manners of life, often overshadowing a large portion of our lives or at times staring at us, waiting for the fear to take over. Maybe it is a conversation, a situation, you are avoiding, or one you are currently in the midst of. So what do you do?
Most of us cave in, hide or avoid for far too long. This however takes on an unforgiving toll and eats away at our body, mind, heart, and soul. We, you, can do better. In fact, you can push them back to where they belong — to the far far away world of dreams and make-believe.
First, you need to identify who your giant is — picture it, know it, and realize that it has no power whatsoever on your life, on who you are, and what you can do. After all, all of its power comes from what you are willing to give away, and you can take it all back. Realize that you are powerful beyond belief and that there are no giants who can measure up. In fact, should you decide to, you can face this one and come out victorious.
I, for one, know who my giant is today and I am choosing to look at them straight in the eye, knowing they hold no power over me and that any fear is as fickle as a string of webs.
